One of the most common questions we receive when designing custom flags is, “Can I have a different image on each side of my flag?”. The answer is yes, but there are a few important things to understand before placing your order.
How Are Double-Sided Flags Made?
A flag with two different images requires a double-sided construction. Unlike a standard single-sided flag, which allows the design to be seen in reverse on the back. A double-sided flag is made using two separate printed flag panels sewn together with a block-out liner between them. This prevents the artwork from showing through to the opposite side and allows each side to display a completely different design.
This option is popular for businesses, schools, municipalities, churches, and organizations that want to communicate two different messages. For example, one side may feature a company logo while the opposite side displays a slogan, event information, or a sponsor’s logo. Schools often choose to place their mascot on one side and their official seal on the other.
Things to Consider Before Ordering a Double-Sided Flag
While double-sided flags offer greater design flexibility, they do come with a few trade-offs. Because they contain additional layers of fabric, they are heavier than standard flags. That means they won’t fly as freely in light winds and may require a stronger breeze to fly freely. They also cost more to manufacture due to the additional printing, materials, and sewing required.
When designed and constructed properly, a double-sided flag creates a polished, professional appearance from every viewing angle. It’s an excellent choice when both sides of your message are equally important.
