Whether you are ordering a new American flag, replacing a worn-out halyard (rope), or requesting a quote for flagpole service, one of the first questions we will ask is, “How tall is your flagpole?” If you are not sure, don’t worry, you may already have a tool in your pocket that can help.
Many newer iPhones have Apple’s Measure app, which uses the phone’s camera to estimate the dimensions of objects around you. While it won’t provide survey-grade accuracy, it’s often accurate enough to determine whether your flagpole is approximately 20, 25, 30, or 40 feet tall.
How to Measure Your Flagpole
Start by opening the Measure app on your iPhone. Stand far enough away that you can see the entire flagpole. From the base all the way to the top of the ornament or truck assembly. Follow the prompts on your screen, then tap to mark the bottom of the pole and the top. The app will calculate an estimated height.
For best results:
- Stand on level ground.
- Make sure the entire flagpole is visible.
- Measure to the very top of the pole, including the ball ornament if applicable.
- Take a couple of measurements to compare the results.
Why Does Flagpole Height Matter?
Knowing your flagpole height helps ensure you order the correct size flag. A flag that is too small can look out of proportion, while one that is too large can create unnecessary stress on the flag and hardware, especially in windy conditions.
It also helps us recommend the correct length rope, hardware, and replacement parts. If you’re requesting service, knowing the approximate height allows us to arrive with the right equipment and prepare an accurate estimate.
Still Not Sure?
If your iPhone can’t measure the pole or you’re not confident in the results, we’re happy to help. Simply send us a few clear photos of your flagpole from different angles, along with your location. In many cases, our experienced team can estimate the height and recommend the correct flag size or replacement parts before you place your order.
A few minutes spent measuring your flagpole can save time, prevent ordering mistakes, and help keep your flag flying proudly.
