History of the Colorado State Flag:
- The flag was designed by Andrew Carlisle Carson in 1911 and adopted on June 5, 1911
- The flag has three horizontal stripes, 2 blue and 1 white in the middle with a red “C” filled with a golden disk
- The blue represents the skies
- The gold represents the sunshine
- The white represents the snow capped mountains
- The red represents the ruddy earth
- The exact size of the “C” was never determined, so there were different variations out there. Some with the entire “C” inside of the white stripe
- On March 31, 1964 it was decided the size of the gold disk would be equal to the center stripe
- Colorado is the only state to incorporate the entire, unaltered flag design into the state route marker
