If you have received a quote for a commercial flagpole installation and thought, “Why does this cost so much?” you are not alone. At first glance, installing a flagpole may seem like a simple project. In reality, a commercial flagpole installation involves careful planning, specialized equipment, skilled labor, and multiple visits to your site to ensure your flagpole is installed safely and built to last for decades.
Commercial Installs Start with Careful Site Planning
The process begins before any digging takes place. A site visit is typically scheduled to confirm the exact placement of the flagpole. We can then identify any obstacles, and determine how the foundation should be finished. Every site is different, whether the surrounding surface is concrete, asphalt, landscaping, decorative pavers, or new construction. This planning helps prevent surprises and ensures the finished installation looks professional.
Commercial flagpole installations are rarely completed in a single day. Most installations require a minimum of two days.
Day One: Setting the Foundation
Day One focuses on the foundation. Before excavation begins, underground utilities are located to protect existing infrastructure. The installation crew then excavates the foundation, installs the ground sleeve, places a rebar cage when required by the engineering specifications, and pours concrete. The foundation must be built according to the engineer specifications. Or, at a minimum, the manufacturer’s requirements and allowed adequate time to cure before the flagpole can be erected.
Day Two: Raising the Flagpole
Day Two is when the flagpole comes to life. The crew assembles the flagpole, installs the internal or external hardware, and carefully hoists it into position, often using a crane for larger commercial poles. Precision is essential to ensure the pole is properly aligned, securely seated, and ready to withstand years of wind and weather.
Specialized Equipment and Skilled Crews
In addition to labor, commercial installations require specialized equipment such as excavators, skid steers, cranes, and lifting equipment. These machines must be transported to the job site, operated by trained professionals, and maintained to meet strict safety standards. Installation crews also receive ongoing safety training and work in accordance with OSHA requirements.
At Custom Flag Company, we believe a commercial flagpole should be installed correctly the first time. While professional installation represents a significant investment, it provides long-term reliability, safety, and peace of mind. When comparing installation quotes, remember you’re not simply paying for a flagpole to be placed in the ground, you are investing in engineering, planning, skilled craftsmanship, specialized equipment, and an installation designed to proudly serve your organization for many years.
