Creating a custom flag is an exciting way to showcase your brand, team, event, or personal message. Whether for a business, school, or community event, a well-designed flag can make a powerful visual statement. However, before sending your design to print, it’s essential to understand the art requirements. This ensures your flag looks professional, vibrant, and accurate when produced.

1. File Type and Resolution

For the best result, it is important to provide artwork in vector format. Common file types include AI (Adobe Illustrator), EPS, or PDF with vector elements. Vector files are ideal because they can be scaled to any size without losing quality, which is crucial for large-format prints like flags.

If you’re submitting a raster image (like JPG or PNG), make sure it is high resolution, at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) at the actual print size. However, vector is always preferred when possible.

Understanding the art requirements

2. Color Mode

If exact colors are critical, providing solid coded pantone colors (PMS), will provide the best result. We are able to print per file, however, the colors may not match exactly.

3. Bleed and Safe Area

If you send over the artwork, we will size it to the appropriate size flag you are looking for. If it looks like there is extra space around the logo or text, it is because we need to keep everything within a safe area. The safe area ensures everything is printed on the flag and no text or logo is in the hemming.

4. Text and Fonts

Make sure to convert all text to outlines before sending the file. This prevents font issues. Not all programs have the same text files, if you send a file with no text outlined and we do not have the text, it will print differently. Once text is outlined, it becomes a graphic and won’t change.

5. Simplicity and Contrast

Flags are viewed from a distance and often in motion. Use bold, simple designs with strong contrast between colors. Avoid intricate details or small text that may not be visible or legible.
