Happy Birthday Iowa!!

Happy Birthday Alabama!!

Alabama was the first state to do many things; but in my opinion there are two unique facts. In 1836 Alabama declared Christmas a legal holiday. As for year 1902 Alabama was the first state to perform open heart surgery in the western hemisphere. The successful surgery was performed by Dr. Hill, allowing the patient to continue living life.
