Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Not only does it remind us to reflect on our many blessings but it a time for family.
Twenty six years ago my husband and I hosted our first Thanksgiving. We were married just over a year and we brought together our two families. We are lucky; our parents like each other and have many common interests. We began this tradition of bringing together our families in 1998 and have hosted each year since, until this year. Due to the size of the gathering we decided to take a year off from our tradition. It is strange, but we will be able to spend quality time with our family this year.
One tradition that we will keep in tact is to gather before we eat and share at least one thing we are thankful for. We call this “Thankful”. It has helped our family bond and share heartfelt stories that are sometime difficult to communicate. Each year our gathering grows but we never fail to incorporate Thankful. Some years are tough and we have considered not having Thankful but we decided even in terrible adversity we should look deep and find one thing we are thankful for-even it is just one word.
What traditions do you have? What are you thankful for this thanksgiving?
