At Custom Flag Company, we believe flags are more than just pieces of cloth. They’re powerful symbols of identity, pride, and community. They can flutter in the breeze outside your home, proudly represent your business, or wave at sporting events, rallies, and celebrations. But before your custom flag design comes to life, there are some key material choices to consider. Let’s explore the essential materials for your custom flag.
The Foundation: Choosing the Right Fabric
The fabric you select forms the backbone of your custom flag. Here are the two most popular options, each with its own advantages:
Nylon: Our bread and butter! Nylon is a lightweight, yet durable fabric that’s perfect for most flag applications. It boasts excellent printability, resulting in vibrant colors and crisp details for your design. Nylon flags dry quickly, making them ideal for outdoor use, and they have a natural resistance to mildew and fading. The longest lasting material for a custom flag.
Polyester: A budget-friendly option. Polyester custom flags are a great option if you are not in a very windy area or used for resale and giveaways. The fabric is thinner, therefore not as durable. But a great affordable option depending on the situation.
Considerations for Longevity
Majority of customers want a double sided flag. And we get it, when you are spending this much money for a flag, you want to look good. So, is double sided what you need, or will single side reverse suffice?
Double Sided: Double sided nylon flags are 2 flags sewn back to back with a liner in the middle. It reads correctly on both sides. However, it will not last as long when flown outside because of the extra weight adding extra whip. And, the flag is double the cost.
Single Side Reverse: We will recommend single side reverse flags over and over again. They are a single layer of fabric, reading correctly on the front and bleeding through reading in reverse on the back. They are about half the cost of double sided flags and last longer. Look at your state flag, is it single side reverse or double sided? It is a single side reverse unless you are in Washington or Oregon!
Beyond the Fabric: Finishing Touches
Once you’ve chosen your fabric, consider these additional elements to enhance your custom flag:
Grommets: The brass rings are the most versatile. They can be attached to pretty much anything. Our flags come standard with grommets.
Flagpole Sleeve: The sleeve is sewn onto the flag with a closed top sleeve or an open top with a tab. You are slightly limited to use with a pole sleeve. An open top pole sleeve with a tab is common for indoor flag sets.
