It can be difficult to really know how tall something is unless you bring the tape measure out and get the exact height of the object. It would be a little awkward to go up to your neighbors flagpole with a tape measure. That’s why we are here, to help figure out the perfect height for your flagpole. So, if you come to me and ask what height flagpole do I need for my house? I would say the most common height of a flagpole for a house is typically 20 feet – 25 feet. Here are some things we take into consideration when helping determine the height of the flagpole.
One Story or Two Story House
We like to know if you have a one or two story house, because you don’t want your flagpole to tower over your house, or be itty bitty.
A one story house is perfect for either a 15’ or 20’ flagpole. This all can depend on what year your house was built. If you have an older home with shorter ceilings, resulting in a shorter roofline, a 15’ flagpole is perfect. It matches the roofline or comes in right below.
A two story house can accommodate either a 20’ or 25’ flagpole. This can also depend on when your house was built or how much land you have on your property. If you don’t have a huge front yard, we would suggest a 20’ flagpole. It adds the perfect compliment to the front of your house. If you have more land and can bring the flagpole away from your house slightly, a 25’ flagpole is a great option. You could also get a taller flagpole if you have acres of property.
Just remember, if you live in a neighborhood with an HOA, make sure you don’t have height restrictions and you go through the approval process.
What size flag can I fly on my residential flagpole?
| Flagpole Height | 15’ | 20’ | 25’ | 30’ |
| Flag Size | 3’x5’ | 3’x5’ or 4’x6’ | 4’x6’ or 5’x8’ | 5’x8’ or 6’x10’ |
On flagpoles 20’ and larger you can also fly two flags on the flagpoles. Here is how the flag sizing would work.
| Flagpole Height | 15’ | 20’ | 25’ | 30’ |
| Flag 1 Size | 3’x5’ | 3’x5’ | 4’x6’ | 5’x8’ |
| Flag 2 Size | Would not recommend | 3’x5’ or 2’x3’ | 3’x5’ | 4’x6’ |
